PHASA Conservation & Empowerment Fund
PHASA, through its Conservation and Empowerment Fund, addresses various conservation and empowerment issues. The mission of the Fund is to establish a financial resource which will be used to assist the professional hunting industry in its efforts to promote and maintain the wise consumptive use of the natural resources in South Africa.
How does it work?
1. Levies:
Funds raised through a voluntary donation by our members’ clients of $10 per trophy hunted, are being used towards various good causes, including the following:
• To secure the future of professional hunting. The Fund donated R 100 000 towards the PHASA Legal Aid Fund earlier this year.
• Specific fund accredited wildlife projects, e.g. Rhino anti-poaching and research projects.
• Support to Conservation, by assisting The Conservation Force to represented PHASA at CITES conventions.
• To provide logistical and financial support to PHASA should it be necessary.
• Projects and key issues vitally important to the professional hunting industry. For the past three years, the Fund has covered the costs of the Gala dinner.
We urge our members to make a special effort in promoting the “Levy System” to their clients, raising fund for these good causes.
2. Donations:
We entered into an agreement with Toyota SA recently, whereby a R500 donation will be made to the Fund for each vehicle purchased by PHASA members. The funds will be used for specific conservation causes, to be determined by PHASA and Toyota SA.
3. Heritage Gala Dinner:
Funds raised through the auction of items secured by PHASA, are used for specific projects identified by the Fund Directors. R 220 000 was donated towards Rhino anti-poaching projects during the year.
Funds raised through the auction of items secured by SA Wildlife College from SADC countries, South African Provinces and private donors, are used for the training of conservationists from those specific countries or provinces.
