SERVICES & MARKETING OPPORTUNITIES:

Firearms Control Act. PHASA was instrumental in bringing Section 16A into the Act and was the first association to be accredited in terms thereof. Section 16A caters specifically for professional hunters. PHASA assists our members with obtaining firearms licences under this section, and also with accreditation to Conduct Business in Hunting. The application for “Professional Hunter” status and SAPS 271 (Application to possess a firearm) can be downloaded from the PHASA website.

Ensure a trouble-free arrival in South Africa for your clients. We arrange their temporary firearm import permits at very competitive prices prior to arrival. The service includes meeting them at the SAPS office at OR Tambo International with their permits and assistance with obtaining their firearms. We require all necessary documentation at least 25 days (in some cases 6 weeks) prior to your clients’ arrival. The relevant SAPS forms can be downloaded from the PHASA website. Further details, including airline policies and rates, can be obtained from the PHASA website or from the PHASA office.

The PHASA Trophy Medal Programme acknowledges our clients’ success in hunting exceptional trophy animals. Gold, silver and bronze medals together with attractive certificates are awarded. The certificates include the hunter’s name, species, score, place and date of hunt and the names of the professional hunter and outfitter. You can, if you plan to travel past the PHASA office after your safari, order the medals and certificates in advance. We will have them ready for collection and you can hand them over to your clients at the office before they depart. Scoring is based on the SCI Methods of Measurement. Sample sets of medals and certificates are available to promote the programme to your clients. Members receive commission on every medal sold (refunded twice a year). All major credit cards are accepted. Contact the PHASA office for the latest rates, entry form(s) and full details regarding scoring. (This service is also available to non-members. No commission is payable to non-members.)

Accommodation at the PHASA house. PHASA members and their clients can use the PHASA house in Irene, Pretoria, for overnight accommodation. There are restaurants in the nearby area to suit all tastes and budgets or you can bring your own food and beverages. Time of arrival and departure need to be convenient to PHASA staff and prior reservation is required. The rates are very reasonable (field/junior staff stay at no charge). Details can be obtained from the PHASA office.

On-line classified adverts. Take advantage of the power of electronic media. Many potential clients visit the PHASA website to obtain details of PHASA members before deciding on where and with whom to book their hunts. PHASA’s on-line classified advertisements will help to put your business on the map for a fraction of the price of conventional advertising. This option enables you to have a web presence through the PHASA website with the option of a link to your website. Space is allowed for one image (jpeg or tif format, approximately 16 kb, 178 x 152 px), either your logo or a trophy or lodge photo, and about 100 words of text. The text should include your company name, contact details, web address (if you want a link), the name of the outfitter, province(s) where you hunt, game available and a few general comments. Simply e-mail the images and text to us and we will get you on the web! Adverts in PHASA’s Classified Section are exclusive to PHASA members. Contact the PHASA office for the latest rates.

Simple web link. If you have a website you can choose to simply have your web link listed next to your name on the PHASA members’ list on the PHASA website. This is free of charge.

Adverts in the PHASA magazine. Various options are available. Substantial discounts apply if you book and pay for three publications in advance. Contact the PHASA office regarding deadlines, artwork and rates.

Adverts in the PHASA weekly newsletter. Members have the opportunity to advertise in our weekly newsletter, provided that there is enough space. Professional hunters who are PHASA members can advertise their services in this newsletter. Outfitters can use the newsletters to advertise job opportunities, etc to our members. We encourage our outfitters to refer to the newsletters when looking for staff members. (The office also has a list of freelance professional hunters available.) These adverts are free of charge to members.
General guidelines regarding adverts. PHASA reserves the right to accept or decline any advert, material, photographs, etc, and reserves the right to approve or disapprove the link to any website. No hunting advertisements will be placed where specific reference is made to trophy size, the possibility of selection in advance of a specific animal (“catalogue hunting”) or any other type of hunting which will contravene the PHASA Code of Conduct. Members who want to advertise hunts will be requested to sign an undertaking that the hunts will be done in accordance with the PHASA Code of Conduct.

Branded clothing. PHASA members can order quality shirts, leather belts and hats for their clients and/or staff members through our office. We can also arrange the embroidery on your behalf (discounted prices for orders of 10 or more units). Contact the PHASA office for more details.

Registers. Professional hunting registers, remuneration books and taxidermy registers are available from the PHASA office at affordable rates.
